Victor Valley Community College with 12,000 students is part of the California Community College System and includes the main campus in Victorville plus satellite campuses in Hesperia, Apple Valley Phelan and Adelanto. The College, which originally opened in 1965 and went through upgrades in the 1990s, was struggling with a wireless system that could no longer keep up with the demands of the College’s growing student body.
The College had two Cisco WAPs already installed in the back-lot training area of the East Campus Public Safety complex. VectorUSA engineers replaced the aging units with new Cisco AIR-CAP wireless access points and configured them as “feeder” APs, providing two network connections via the existing fiber. Three more Cisco APs were installed to provide additional coverage for the back-lot area. VectorUSA also installed Cisco Aironet dual-band omnidirectional antennas with Ethernet and small form-factor pluggable backhaul options, along with the option of a battery backup. The Cisco Aironet antennas are well equipped for municipal and campus deployments, video surveillance applications and data offload. As a result of the Cisco upgrade and antenna installments, the College now has a reliable network that’s scalable and can keep up with the needs of the students and faculty.
