Providence Health & Services

Providence Health & Services, Southern California has six hospitals and affiliated medical groups in Southern California from the San Fernando Valley to the Westside and South Bay. Providence needed to upgrade its network of voice and data backbone cables. One of the main hurdles was there were no existing plans or drawings of the voice backbone cabling.

To begin, VectorUSA provided a detailed implementation plan to PHSSC. VectorUSA engineers jumped right into identifying and labeling all voice and data backbone copper and fiber cables campus-wide from the Serving Utility. They did the same for all backbone cabling from the Main Distribution Facility to all the Intermediate Distribution Facilities as well as satellite locations. VectorUSA evaluated and updated all existing data and voice backbone CAD drawings and presented them to PHSSC. As a result, PHSSC was able to move ahead with plans to connect its urgent care clinics to centralized servers with point-to-point wireless bridges, installed by VectorUSA, eliminating the need for costly hard-wired network backbones.

In the meantime, at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Vector engineers were asked to relocate 225 network connections in three weeks – more than 70% of which were in occupied patient rooms. Again, PHSSC’s multiple locations are connected using point-to-point wireless bridges, installed by VectorUSA engineers, connecting data without costly infrastructure.
